ugh that's brutal. my friend Mac who's doing his 1st year MDiv at the theological college here at Queen's has to deal with this kind of stuff all the time. That same hymn his prof (sort of) joked: "Jesus may have risen today, (hallelujah), We're not sure, we cannot say ... "
I KNOW!!! I wrote a posted item on Facebook about this, when I saw the Globe and Mail article.
"Not only is Rev. Gretta Vosper totally wrong in her position, it's also quite an ad hoc position to take on Christianity, if you think about it.
Her book, "With or Without God: Why the Way We Live is More Important than What We Believe" is totally within her rights to write. But I would hope that everyone, including herself, would recognize that what she is EFFECTIVELY saying is that the Christian faith should be abandoned (in favor of her own brand of "spirituality"). As a United Church minister, though, it is incongruous to proclaim that and still claim the status of "Christian".
A Christian leader who doesn't believe in God or rejects Jesus Christ as revealed in the New Testament accounts is like a President of the U.S. who lives in Switzerland and doesn't believe that the USA is a legitimate country.
I wish the whole article was availible to read for free! I have to say I'm kinda glad that people are doing something BLATANTLY not-christian, so that even new Christians can see it for what it is and reject it. If it was more subtle, more people would be easily led astray. Hopefully this is so obviously wrong, and no one will follow (although inevitably some will).

So to speak."
