CHEERS....TO MY CHILDHOOD GADGETS AND FADS.

SKIP-IT! (this isn't the right picture...but i couldn't find a picture of a REAL skip-it!)

POGS!

FURBIES!!

NANO PETS AND TAMAGOTHCHIS!!

POLLY POCKETS!!!

Oh wow. the good ol' days.

do you remember when you were a kid and would go outside and play till the sky was dark? When you'd write on the sidewalk with stones and set up lemonade stands? Or when you'd make a computer book out of construction paper and play Inspector Gadget?

those were the days man. my kids are TOTALLY going to do that. none of this modern x-box crap. thats right. if i wasn't allowed to play nintendo, my kids won't either!!!

what childhood games and toys did you play with?

(special props to beth for remniscing with me)

My parents wouldn't allow me to have a system either. It ended up being me, my baseball glove, and a ball very often. I secretly bought pogs and LOVED it. I sucked at skip-it and hated the girls in my neighbourhood who thought it was so great. I wasn't even allowed to watch Ninja Turtles. But who really cares eh. I got Bible verses on tape instead. Oh this is good: My spankings never went unaccompanied by a visit to Isaiah 53 to make sure I knew who I had sinned against. I'd rather have that any day!
I loved the post Lydia

HAHAH i wasn't allowed to watch Ninja Turtles either!!!!!!!!! not like i wanted to... with the half hour of tv i was allowed to watch...i chose to watch Today's Special...and when i had outgrown that..it was FULL HOUSE all the way.

did you know that Kirk Cameron is Candace Cameron's(better known as DJ on full house) brother??

ya...apparently she has a Christian tract too...

LEGO, baby.... lego was definitely my first love in terms of toys..... liked stuffed animals too (they went on adventures! haha...). i had a couple of barbies that i only played with when lisa was over, and i collected pogs that looked pretty..... but yeah.... alot of the fads were just very brief, passing phases.... always went back to the lego. with a brother around, it was way more fun to construct something huge together and fight over the pieces than to be a girly-girl and play with barbies.... *lol* (honestly, other than putting pretty clothes on them and taking them off, what are they good for?!) not that i didn't have other dolls and toys.... but most of them got incorporated into our lego constructions. *lol*

let's see..... the soccer ball was a pretty integral part of my childhood. :p and on those days when we were stranded at church (as PK's often are!), anything was subject to be included in our games.... chairs, nursery toys, you name it!

oh we followed the ninja turtles avidly.... ben has the figurines and he collected cards too!

haha, my sister just bought a skip-it. and i saw a whole bunch at walmart.

I barely ever watched TV when I was a kid. My parents didn't really allow it. We didnt even have cable (still don't) and honestly i wouldnt change that at all. We played out the whole time. no skip-it for me but good ol' skipping rope, and i i went biking a lot, just hanging out playing random games with neighbourhood kids. fun times. i had a couple video games although i have no clue what they were, other than super mario...1 UP!!! wahoooo! anyway. I think us older kids had more fun outside than kids do today.

Look at us now. Addicted to msn and blogs. sick.

hey lydia!!

i'm pretty excited to be reminded of skip-it. in fact, i want to go looking for my old one at home and see if it's hidden in a corner of my garage somewhere. uniting with it would be good times!

I would have hated all you stinking skip-it girls...I always sucked at it and could never understand the fun in it...notice the past tense...I don't still resent you for liking (and still liking) skip it.
Pogs were just more manly...I think it has something to do with the fact that with pogs, if you win you win some of your opponents pogs...it is the seed of the desire for world domination...much more of a manly thing than a womanly thing...
good times though

luvd som's comment about d spanking and isaiah 53. wen i got spanked, i was reminded of God's judgment on Eli's children...wud i rather be disciplined by God or by my mother. i guess if dey put it dat way, u'd ac2ali rather b spanked after all...

i never really got in2 pogs... i tried marbles once but i suck. but i luvd playin' outside wid mah frenz wen i was young... wen my mom didn't allow meeh 2 play outside, my frenz wud come 'n ask 4 meeh. usually worked! but sumtyms, not.

den i got suckered in2 thinkin' dat wen i was 18, i can do watever i wanted ie playin' outside wid mah frenz. den wen u reach 18, u realize dat derz no1 2 play wid or ppl don't wanna play nemore. ugh!
