When i think of the unknown future lately, i feel scared and trepid. Excited, but scared.
i know that if i trust and depend on God, He won't let my feet slip...but the unknown still leads to apprehension.
At the risk of sounding blasphemous, was God scared when He was readying Himself to come to earth in flesh? i mean, i know He's God, so the idea of Him being scared seems silly... but was He scared at the prospect of the pain He would endure? For Him, being omnipotent, what He would go through wouldn't be unknown, nor would it be a surprise... but i wonder if He felt any trepidation at all?

I also risk misinterpreting a passage of scripture in responding to this. But when reading it I couldn't help but to think of Luke 22:42, which reads: "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
I'm not an expert, and the idea that Jesus was experiencing fear at this pt may be what I'm portraying from the movie "passion of the Christ" and not so much the Bible.
Though to me it seems at this pt Jesus experienced a bit of fear in knowing what He had to do.
I'm pretty sure Jesus, Son of God who is fully God and fully man, was freaked out at the garden of Gethsemane. In His humanity, I'm pretty sure He was scared at that moment (hence the great drops of sweat like blood).
But I don't think either God the Father nor Jesus was scared before the incarnation. Jesus would have perfectly understood the pain and frightful things awaiting Him, but I would assume He was also strong enough and confident enough to know what He was getting Himself into and also how it would turn out. Perfectly calm is my assumption (not to be confused with dispassionate, though).
Plus, I don't think Jesus had hormones at that point (that only comes with a body) ;)

Paulman: hmm those are good points. I wonder though.. perfectly calm is different from not being scared. And from a human perspective, even when you know 100% what awaits you, sometimes it's still scary.
this question should challenge us about our notions of who God is. i would argue that our current conceptions of God is influenced by Platonic and post-Enlightenment ideology. yet, if we look at the Jewish account of God, He seems to possess human attributes and qualities. He wasn't this completely other being and somehow there was no way of knowing Him. He revealed himself to humans using human ways of communication.
i'm not trying to say that God is not other-worldly. He is completely out of this world. but the way that He acts makes me think that He knows that humans aren't going to understand Him if He doesn't speak to them on a level that allows Him to be comprehended and apprehended at a human level.
back to the question: i don't think He was scared. He could beat Chuck Norris up... and if u can do it, there's no reason to be scared at all. hahaha
